How we distribute

Every Kona jeep and van carries the same commissioned artwork as the cans.

Built for retail

Jeeps and vans serve every governorate from regional depots, reaching the largest retail chains and the smallest coastal grocer on the same schedule and with the same care. Owning the fleet means owning the promise: full shelves, intact cases, and a route that does not stop where the road gets difficult.

Art on the road

The founders are sea people and art people in equal measure, and the vehicles answer to both. It is a serious business decision made in a joyful key: a company that asks people to care about the ocean should be a pleasure to see coming.

Kona Tuna is far more than a company. It is a movement. We went from a hobby to a successful business simply by following our passion for the sea, and that passion transcends culture. We now employ 67 people, including 28 fishermen in the Maldives, all working to the same ethos and values.
Sami Bugaighis, founder

What buyers ask us

Specialty grocers and quality-led retailers work to standards. Here is where Kona sits on the questions that come up first, with documentation available on request.

Fishing method

One hundred percent pole and line. No purse seines, no FADs, no longlines, and no transhipment at sea.

Traceability

Every lot traces back to the vessel, the atoll and the landing date. Lot level records are supplied with each shipment.

Clean label

Tuna, extra virgin olive oil, salt. No fillers, no broth, no additives, no colourings, and no added water.

Bycatch and welfare

Single hook fishing keeps turtles, dolphins, sharks and juveniles out of the catch, and accidental hooks are released alive.

Food safety

HACCP based controls, third party audited plants, histamine and heavy metal testing by lot, and full spec sheets and CoAs on request.

Supply and formats

Retail cans, foodservice packs and private label. Volumes are limited by the method, so we plan seasonal allocations with buyers in advance.

Retail and foodservice enquiries

For listings, samples, specification sheets or private label, our team will send documentation and a sourcing summary for your category review.
